2023 Waterborne disease response training in Primary Health Facility.

From 12th October 2023 to 17th October 2023, the Heart to Heart Foundation Malawi supported ‘Waterborne disease response training’ to health workers (clinicians, nurses) and HSA (health surveillance assistants) (44 clinicians, nurses, and 44 HSA) in 22 primary health centers in Machinga district.

To address the goal of ‘Strengthening the capability to respond to waterborne diseases in primary health facilities’, the training was conducted with a focus on the prevention and management of waterborne diseases.

Based on respective roles, customized training was provided for each health worker and HSA. This time training was divided into 4 different zones to enhance effectiveness.

For health workers, the training covered topics about the spread route of infectious diseases, the use of medicine in Cholera, methods of identifying symptoms of dehydration, treatment of dehydration and discharge procedures, and more.

For HSAs, lessons on various methods of disease monitoring were provided and the importance of evidence-based approaches in responding to infectious diseases was emphasized to facilitate timely and appropriate responses by reflecting real situations.

We expect that this training will contribute to enhancing the capacity to respond to waterborne diseases in Machinga District. The Heart to Heart Foundation, in collaboration with Machinga local government, will continue to provide support to strengthen the capacity to respond to waterborne diseases in Machinga district.
